Caminando en D.C.

Today we walked from Petworth (my neighborhood) down to the Mall and back (about 15 miles round-trip).
The Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool...

The Washington Monument reflected in the Reflecting Pool...

And we stopped for Ethiopian food (the hands-down most scrumptious food in the world, in my opinion) at Almaz, the most delicious Ethiopian restaurant in D.C.! In case you didn't know, it is eaten communally (one plate for all), and you don't use utensils, instead you pinch the food with bread called injera (which it is all served on top of).
I have decided that my deliciousness of cuisines ranking goes in this order 1) Ethiopian, 2) Indian, 3) pupusas (no, not all Salvadoran food, just pupusas :-), and 4) Egglant parmigian (again, not all Italian, just this particular amazing dish).

A couple more from Manhattan...

This street is called Cherry Lane and it is adorable.
I just like this door!

Clare and a Monarch

I love this picture of Clare with her aunties and a monarch butterfly at Lighthouse Field last month. Look at her fingers - she wants so much to touch it!

Marie's Dresses

Marie gave me an entire stack of exquisite dresses she designed and cut out herself - these are only about half of them. As you can see, I have hung them above my desk where I can enjoy looking at them and wishing I had attire as stunning as this to wear myself. I foresee an illustrious career for a girl with such talent!

More Inauguration!

These pictures are courtesy of Jason...

The Reflecting Pool in front of the Capitol was frozen solid, it was so bitterly cold.
This group of people asked us to take their picture, and then they asked us to be in the picture (Mrs. Rowe and I are on the left). Everyone was so happy!

More Inauguration

The metro was absolutely nuts, and we were there well before the worst of the crowds.
We were pretty close to the action!
The view behind us...
Lots of layers for the cold!

Sunday in the City

Sunday was absolutely beautiful (by February-on-the-East-Coast standards)... we spent most of the day walking around Manhattan. I have never longed so much for or been so grateful for nice weather in my life!
All of these pictures were taken between Washington Square Park and the Lower East Side. I think the fish on top of this sushi shop is adorable - it is in a net, so it looks like it has been caught.

Thoughtful Lia

I love how pensive Lia looks in this picture. She is clearly thinking deep thoughts.

The Inauguration

This picture can not convey how cold it was on the Mall at 6am. Just
4 or 5 hours to go until anything started!
And then the sun came up!
So much joy and excitement!
